Bariatric surgery is your BMI Above 35?

Maintain your weight, maintain your health

BMI is a measure of your weight in relation to your height. Class 1 obesity means a BMI of 30 to 35, Class 2 obesity is a BMI of 35 to 40, and Class 3 obesity is a BMI of 40 or more.
Classes 2 and 3, also known as severe obesity, are often hard to treat with diet and exercise alone.
Bariatric surgery may be an option if you have severe obesity and have not been able to lose weight or keep from gaining back any weight you lost using other methods such as lifestyle treatment or medications.
Studies show that many people who have bariatric surgery lose about 15 to 30 percent of their starting weight on average.
Bariatric surgery may make it easier for you to consume fewer calories and be more physically fit.

#Gastricbypass and other weight-loss surgeries — known collectively as bariatric surgery — involve making changes to your digestive system to help you lose weight.
#Bariatricsurgery is done when diet and exercise haven't worked or when you have serious health problems because of your weight.
The amount of weight you lose depends on your type of surgery and your change in lifestyle habits.

How Laparoscopic fundoplication is better than Open fundoplication Surgery?

Laparoscopic fundoplication is a keyhole procedure performed for patients with:

• Severe acid reflux
• Barrett's esophagus
• Symptomatic hiatus hernias

The procedure involves narrowing the defect through which the esophagus passes into the stomach as well as wrapping the upper part of the stomach around the lower esophagus to recreate the valve at the lower end of the esophagus.
The wrap itself may be complete or partial depending on the circumstances.

The operation takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and is carried out under general anesthesia.
Overnight hospital stay is to be expected, although some patients can go home on the same day. There are restrictions on food intake for the first few weeks after the operation.
